Industrial automation
Small and medium parts, many with precisely positioned holes and faces in several directions. What decides is not the tolerance of one dimension but the position of one dimension relative to another.
What parts come from this sector
Small and medium parts, many with precisely located holes and faces in several directions. Relative position matters more than absolute size - which is why a single setup is worth more here than a heavier feed.
What decides at quotation
Position tolerance between features is lost at every repositioning of the part. Two faces machined in two set-ups inherit the set-up error, however good each one is on its own. That is why parts with a bolt circle and angled faces are finished in a single set-up on the simultaneous 5-axis centre: the dimensions between features stay the machine’s, not the operator’s. Mark on the drawing which dimensions are between features, not only to an edge.
Usual materials
The groups that most often appear in this sector’s parts. What decides remains the drawing, not the sector label.
Usual processes
The processes this sector’s parts usually go through.
Documentation usually required
Usual: a dimensional report on the position dimensions, measured in coordinates. Material certificate on request.
