  1. Step 01

    Sawing

    The bar is cut to blank length, with an allowance for chucking. The heat number of the material is recorded here, and from this point the part can be traced back to its certificate.

  2. Step 02

    Roughing

    The bulk of the material comes off, leaving an allowance for finishing. What matters here is metal removal rate, not accuracy: the shape approaches the dimension without yet reaching it.

  3. Step 03

    Finishing

    The diameters reach size; shoulders, grooves and chamfers appear. From here on, every pass changes a value written on your drawing.

    Final turned dimensions, with live tooling where needed.

  4. Step 04

    Five-axis milling

    The trunnion table tilts the part under the tool, reaching faces a three-axis machine never sees. Flats, bore and bolt circle come out of a single setup, with no repositioning error between them.

  5. Step 05

    Grinding

    The bearing journal is ground after stress relief, not before: the material redistributes its stresses when heated, and a dimension held before that does not stay where it was put.

    Surface grinding, 500 × 1,000 mm*. In-house stress relief beforehand.

  6. Step 06

    3D measurement

    The first article is measured in full, and the series is checked on the critical dimensions. The dimensional report travels with the batch, alongside the material certificate.

* Marked figures come from catalogue documentation and are confirmed on the machine nameplate before quotation.

The part, after all six operations

The same shaft, drawn at the end of the road. Pick an operation and the features it produced light up — the rest stay dim. That is how you see what the finished drawing owes to each pass through the shop.

Schematic representation. The dimensions are those of the simulation’s reference drawing, not of an ordered part.

How to read the drawing

The dash-dot line down the middle is the axis of rotation: the part is symmetrical about it, so it is drawn once and understood whole. Dimensions marked Ø are diameters, not radii — a confusion that costs half the material. The dim outline behind is the bar it started from.

The same profile as the simulation

This geometry is not drawn separately: it is the same list of coordinates that drives the roughing simulation above. Two drawings of one part, made from different data, would contradict each other at the first change.
